Why haven’t twee vocals and lyrics met bombastic punk in this way before? These super-fey Brits have made the music I wish I had when I was in high school. Wordy, bratty, and fun. My favorite thing about this album are the “moments.” Throughout the album, several times a bridge, a coda or a chorus will just make me scream “fuck yes!” For instance, the bridge with “I know. I am wrong. I am sorry” on “This Is How You Spell…” or the coda of “We’re underdeveloped, we’re ignorant, we’re stupid, but we’re happy.” Everytime I listen to these parts, it’s just so damn great. The perfect music for Belle & Sebastian types when they want to fuck shit up (which probably mostly involves tearing the cover off a book).
