13. Air France - No Way Down
Gothenberg, Sweden is seriously the Seattle of indie pop. Jens Lekman, The Tough Alliance, Love Is All, Sambassadeur, The Knife, and these dudes. Their previous stuff has been fairly good sophistipop with an electronic bent, but on this new release, somewhere between an EP and an album, they fall headfirst into Avalanches territory, keeping their sophisticated approach and ear for atmosphere, to great, great success. Though the songs are mostly either instrumental or lyrically illegible, they’re able to project love, longing, and regret (that is the corniest sentence ever). Something’s in the water in Gothenberg.
