19. Cheap Time - Cheap Time
Between these folks and Jay Reatard, it’s quite the year for Memphis punk. Cheap Time blasts through tight, catchy punk songs, only one of which is over two and a half minutes (the last track, “Trip to the Zoo,” which starts with a minute and a half of guitar noise before hitting a minute and a half of pop-punk). It’s super lo-fi, but that only emphasizes how great the songwriting is. Didn’t really get much attention, but hopefully their next will, as they’re really something great.
