16. Japandroids - Post-Nothing
2009 has been a so-so year for music, filled with hippie-loopers like Animal Collective and quiet, fairly boring folk acts. Japandroids have stood head-and-shoulders over their competition with a passion and earnestness unseen on any other record this year. A two-piece that sounds like a four-piece, Japandroids are firmly rooted in the early 90s fuzz guitar sound that My Bloody Valentine made popular. This is paired with half-screamed heart-breakingly sincere lyrics about girls and growing up. It’s the sound of giving a fuck.
